On Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Warren Wilson College, we welcomed Clarissa Thompson Sligh. A story-teller for over 25 years, she has woven together social and historical events with the personal and political using installations, photographs, and artists books.
The evening started with a reception filled with conversations, snacks, punch, music from The Dixie Darlings, and a display of Clarissa books she allowed all to view with fragile fingers in supplied white gloves. Once the lecture begun, The Harwood-Cole Memorial Lecture, “I Am a Verb in the Shadows, Walking,” Clarissa had us all captured in her stories, path, and art as she spoke with a soft and eloquent voice with an accompanying powerpoint of personal photographs from her life and photographs of her art.
Thank you Clarissa, all who participated in planning and being a part of the event, and all who attended.
